The newly elected state Representative will give the keynote address

FORT WAYNE – The Allen County Democratic Party is honored to announced that the keynote speaker for the 2023 Obama Dinner will be newly elected state Representative Victoria Garcia Wilburn. The second annual Obama Dinner will take place at the Grand Wayne Center on Thursday, March 9th.

Dr. Garcia Wilburn won her election to the Indianapolis-area House District 32 by less than 300 votes and will speak to the importance of engaging as many voters as possible. Her experience running such a close race in 2022 will provide valuable experience for the Allen County Democratic Party’s 2023 candidates running at the local level in races often decided by slim margins.

Dr. Garcia Wilburn is an assistant professor of occupational therapy at IUPUI and ran on a platform of affordable, accessible health care, higher educational standards, and common-sense gun laws. During the 2023 legislative session, she has introduced legislation to expand the number of occupational therapists able to participate in community care for those with mental illness, require police officer training to include personal mental health and suicide prevention programs, and to place a cap on the student-to-therapist ratio for schools that employ occupational or physical therapists for students with disabilities.

“We’re very excited to have Representative Garcia Wilburn as the keynote speaker for this year’s Obama Dinner,” said Allen County Democratic Party Chairman Derek Camp. “Her experience winning a race decided by only a few hundred votes will be invaluable to our candidates, our volunteers, and our party as a whole. Dr. Garcia Wilburn knows the time, energy, and effort it takes to win a race in Indiana, and we will be better off listening to what she has to say.”
