FORT WAYNE— The Allen County Democratic Party today officially announced the caucus to fill the 6th City Council District vacancy created by Mayor Sharon Tucker’s victory in the mayoral caucus, abiding by state statute which requires the caucus be held within 30 days of the vacancy’s occurrence. The caucus will be held at the Bricklayers Union No 4 at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18th.

Candidate Filing: Anyone seeking candidacy to fill the mayoral vacancy is required file a CEB-5 form with the Allen County Democratic Party by the deadline of 72 hours before the caucus – May 15th at 10:00 a.m. After the deadline, the Allen County Democratic Party Central Committee will review all filings to ensure that candidates meet state requirements for office.

Democratic Precinct Chair Caucus Details: Presiding Chair of the caucus is Allen County Democratic Party Chairman Derek Camp. The Parliamentarian is Andrew Downs. The caucus will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. Registration for precinct chairs will begin at 9:30 a.m. and last until 10:00 a.m., at which time any precinct chair not already in line to register will be unable to vote. Democratic Precinct Chairs are eligible to participate in the caucus. Once the caucus begins, each candidate will be given five minutes to speak. Candidates will speak in alphabetical order. To win the caucus, a candidate must receive 50% of the vote plus one. If a winner is not determined on the first ballot, there will be a ten-minute break between ballot rounds. For each subsequent ballot required, candidates will receive two additional minutes to speak, in alphabetical order. Members of the public are encouraged to attend the caucus but will be seated in an
area separate from the precinct chairs participating in the caucus.
